A democratic news poll suggests that the majority of Americans want Jeff Sessions to resign

Liberal tripe or legitimate polling? CBS News reported that: The poll, conducted by Quinnipiac University, indicated that 51 percent of voters think Sessions should step down, versus 42 percent who say he should stay on. The survey came on the heels of news that Sessions did not disclose a fall meeting with the Russian ambassador during his confirmation hearings. Democrats, most notably Sen. Al Franken, have accused Sessions of perjury. Franken had asked Sessions at his confirmation hearing about communications between Russia and the Trump campaign, to which Sessions replied that he had not had contact with the Russians.

Sessions’ defenders say his answer was accurate because he did not talk with the Russian ambassador as a campaign surrogate for Mr. Trump, but rather in his capacity as a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. According to the poll, however, 52 percent of voters believe Sessions committed perjury, versus 40 percent who believe he did not. ~ CBS

The Washington post article about the poll raises questions

I was a little surprised by this. And upon further inspection, there are a few reasons for skepticism.

First of all, the question Quinnipiac asked doesn’t include Sessions’s actual response — nor does it include the actual question that Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) asked him. Sessions has argued that the context of the exchange is relevant here; he said that his meeting with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak was in his official capacity and that his answer to Franken was in the context of the campaign. Sessions said his answer was “honest and correct as I understood it at the time.” ~ Washington Post

They also concluded by stating perfectly that: “This poll seems to be a great example of the way you ask the question determining the answers you get. We’ll see if there are more polls.”
